Terms of Sale and License
Last updated October 16, 2026
The short version. You pay once and can use MacTidy on up to three of your Macs. Checkout is handled by Polar, our reseller. MacTidy moves files to the Trash and you approve every cleanup, but you're responsible for what you choose to remove, so keep a backup. You can get a refund within 14 days. The full terms below are what count.
1. Who we are
MacTidy is made by Zeus Olivar, an independent developer ("we", "us"). In these terms, "you" means the person or organization that downloads, buys or uses MacTidy. You can reach us at support@mactidy.dev.
By downloading, installing or using MacTidy, or by buying a license, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, don't use MacTidy.
2. Buying MacTidy
Orders are processed by Polar Software, Inc. ("Polar"), which acts as our reseller and merchant of record. Polar takes your payment, charges any sales tax or VAT due in your country, issues your receipt, and handles payment disputes. Your purchase is also subject to Polar's Checkout Buyer Terms.
Prices are shown in US dollars. The price you pay is the one shown at checkout, including any tax. After payment, Polar emails your receipt, which links to your Polar customer portal, where your license key is listed.
3. Your license
When you buy MacTidy, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use MacTidy on up to three Macs that you own or control, for as long as you comply with these terms. A license is for one person. An organization that buys a license may assign it to one member of its staff, who may use it on up to three Macs. You can move a license from one Mac to another by deactivating it on the first.
Without a license, you may use the free features of MacTidy, such as scanning and the disk map, on any number of Macs.
MacTidy checks your license with Polar about once a day while it's open. If it can't reach Polar for 30 days, cleaning and the uninstaller pause until the next successful check; scanning, the disk map and undoing earlier cleanups keep working.
You may not:
- share, publish or resell your license key, or use it on more Macs than your license allows;
- remove, bypass or interfere with license checks;
- copy, modify, or distribute MacTidy, except for backups of your own Mac;
- reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble MacTidy, except where the law allows it despite this restriction;
- use MacTidy to remove files on a computer you don't have permission to manage.
MacTidy is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights not expressly granted to you. Third-party components included in MacTidy are covered by their own licenses, listed in the app under About MacTidy.
4. Updates
Your license includes every update to version 1 (1.x) at no extra cost. A future major version may be offered as a paid upgrade; if it is, the version you bought keeps working.
MacTidy checks for app updates and downloads updated cleanup rules from mactidy.dev. You can turn off automatic update checks in MacTidy's settings. Rule updates are signed, and MacTidy ignores any rules that fail the signature check.
5. How MacTidy removes files, and your responsibility
MacTidy scans your disk, suggests items to remove, and shows you each item's size, location and safety level before anything happens. By default it moves selected items to the Trash and records each cleanup in its history, so you can undo it until you empty the Trash. Some items are removed through the tool that owns them instead, such as Xcode's simulator cleanup or Docker's own prune command; MacTidy tells you when that's the case, because those items can't be restored from the Trash.
You decide what to remove. Our rules are written carefully, but no rule can know everything about your Mac, and an app might store something important in a location that's normally safe to clear. Before cleaning, make sure you have a current backup, for example with Time Machine. Please report anything MacTidy flagged that it shouldn't have, so we can fix the rule for everyone.
6. Refunds
You can get a full refund within 14 days of purchase, for any reason. See the refund policy for how. When a purchase is refunded or charged back, its license key is deactivated. Nothing in these terms takes away a right to withdraw or cancel that the law of your country gives you.
7. Warranty disclaimer
To the extent the law allows, MacTidy is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We don't promise that MacTidy will be error-free or that every item it suggests is safe to remove on your Mac.
If you are a consumer, you may have rights under the law of your country that can't be excluded, such as a right to software that matches its description. Those rights are not affected by these terms.
8. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or revenue, arising from your use of MacTidy. Our total liability for any claim relating to MacTidy is limited to the amount you paid for your license.
These limits don't apply to liability that can't be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
9. Ending the license
Your license lasts until it ends under these terms. It ends automatically if you break these terms, or if the purchase is refunded or charged back. When it ends, you must stop using the paid features. You may keep using MacTidy's free features, including undoing earlier cleanups. Sections 5, 7, 8 and 11 continue after the license ends.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add features or when the law changes. We'll post the new version on this page with a new date. Changes don't apply retroactively to a purchase you've already made, unless the change is in your favor.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country in which we are established, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring a claim in your local courts.
12. Apple
MacTidy is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Apple Inc. Mac, macOS, Xcode and Time Machine are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.
